How to Organize Your Child’s Records

Organization feels so good!

1.   Select a 2 inch notebook (or the size you are comfortable with)

2.   Arrange the records CHRONOLOGICALLY.  When done put the most recent documents on top.

3.   Create separate piles for test protocols, attendance records, general education report cards, email communications, and misc.

4.   Remove staples, use paperclips instead.

5.   Write the date of the document in the top right hand corner on the first page of a “paperclipped” section. Highlight the date if you wish.

6.   Throw out your duplicates.

7.   Use a 3-hole punch to make holes in all paperwork.

8.   Notice what documents are missing some of the pages. Put a stickie on the right side of this document, or write each incomplete document on a list. You can request full copies of these documents once the organization is complete.

9.   Use dividers to separate one school year’s paperwork from the previous year’s paperwork. Use dividers to create sections for your test protocols, attendance records, general education report cards, email communication, and misc.

10. Remember to keep your documents clean.  Do not write directly on them. Use stickies  for your notes.
